Hispanic Heritage Month is off to an amazing start at Colonial High School! Our recent Hispanic Heritage Month Parade filled both campuses with pride and celebration as students shared their cultures through music, flags, and traditional attire. I am especially grateful to see our students embrace the diversity that makes our school community so strong.

Our students filled our campus with color, pride, and excitement during last week’s Hispanic Heritage Month Parade. From sharing their heritage through colorful attire, flags, and music, our students reminded us that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We look forward to a month filled with learning, appreciation, and celebration as we honor the impact of Hispanic Americans on our nation and our community.

Ms. Van Allen has thoughtfully connected her lesson on identifying a central idea in a text to Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the life and accomplishments of Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Her creativity and commitment to culturally responsive teaching engaged students in meaningful conversations, fostered an appreciation for diversity, and brought Hispanic Heritage Month to life in a memorable and impactful way. |

• Virtual Mini-Academy: Financial AID and FAFSA
It is important to note:
- Most Virtual Mini-Academies are offered in English at 6PM on Tuesdays and in Spanish at 12 PM on Thursdays.
- Lunch and Learns are live-streamed from the OCPS Facebook page.

Interested in a career in public service? Apply for the U.S. Senate Youth Program!
Are you a junior or senior currently serving in an elected or appointed student leadership position? The United States Senate Youth Program offers outstanding student leaders the opportunity to experience the federal government in action during Washington Week, March 6–13, 2027. Two students from Florida will be selected to attend, and each will receive a $12,500 undergraduate college scholarship. Deadline: September 29!
