Enterprise Desktop and Mobile Support Technology
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and related careers in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology and support industries.
The content includes but is not limited to foundational knowledge and skills in computer and network security, security vulnerabilities, attack mechanisms and techniques, intrusion detection and prevention, cryptographic systems, system hardening, risk identification, incidence response, penetration testing, key management, access control, and recovery. Students will begin their studies in Computer Hardware Fundamentals and then progress to Operating Systems Fundamentals and completing their high school studies with Advanced Operating Systems. There is also the opportunity for students during their Junior and Senior years to dual enroll at one of the Orange Technical College campuses to continue their studies.
Students will be eligible to sit for and earn their CompTIA ITF+ and CompTIA A+ industry certifications. These certifications will give students a leg up when applying for jobs in the industry and can result in college credit at both Orange Technical College and Valencia College.
Digital Media/Multimedia Design
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in digital publishing positions, such as Information Technology Assistants, Production Assistants, Digital Assistant Designers, Graphic Designers, and Multi-Media Designers.
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster.
The content includes, but is not limited to, practical experiences in webpage design and interactive presentation development, testing and production. Specialized skills in multimedia presentations such as video editing, audio features, and simple animation and authoring software are used to produce a variety of interactive multimedia presentations.
Students will begin their studies in Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 1 where they will gain skills in presentation production issues, basic computer knowledge, digital still photography, and photo editing software. They will then progress to Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 2 where they will study advanced design, illustration software, color modes, and fonts. Moving forward, students will enter Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 3 where they will fine-tune their skills in the use and application of design layout software. Continuing on to Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 4, students will engage in activities to help them master webpage design, HTML and CSS, and authoring software for webpage design. For students who are committed to a future in this industry, Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 5 focuses on animated webpage design and the use of interactive design software, while Digital Media/Multimedia Foundations 6 introduces students to the use of video editing software and equipment. Along the way, students will engage in both project-based and work-based learning experiences along with career exploration and planning.
Students will be eligible to sit for and earn their Adobe Certified Professional industry certifications.
Digital Video Production
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for initial employment as production assistants, audio/video equipment technician, video/TV camera operators, video editors, multi-media artists/animators and broadcast technicians.
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Arts, A/V Technology and Communication career cluster.
The content includes, but is not be limited to, communication skills, leadership skills, human relations and employability skills, safe and efficient work practices, and preparation to assume responsibility for the overall production of digital video activities (e.g., scripts, lighting, camera operation, electronic news gathering, field/studio production, video editing).
Students will be eligible to sit for and earn their Adobe Certified Professional industry certifications.
Entrepreneurship
This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and the relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Marketing, Sales and Service career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Marketing, Sales and Service career cluster.
The purpose of this program is to introduce students to the concept of entrepreneurship, present entrepreneurship as a viable career option, provide students with the skills needed to realistically evaluate their potential as business owners, and to develop the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to start and operate a business.
Students will be eligible to sit for and earn their Intuit Entrepreneurship and Small Business industry certifications.
National Academy Foundation
Academy of Information Technology Magnet (Level II)
The National Academy Foundation Academy of Information Technology magnet offers academic instruction in a wide range of rigorous inter-disciplinary academic areas. Lucrative related work experience will be acquired through internship opportunities and on-campus IT events. Some of the opportunities include providing PC support and PC lab de-construction, digital design service, and multi-media productions. Enterprise Desktop and Mobile Support Technology students will have the opportunity to earn their CompTIA ITF+ and A+ certifications.
Students will gain the personal, analytical, technical, and communication skills needed to compete in our technological multi-media society. Colonial High has a partnership with Lockheed Martin for teacher and student support. As a member of the National Academy Foundation, qualified students are eligible for national and local scholarships as well as a vast array of networking opportunities beginning with the student internship at the end of the junior year. Additionally, students in this program may also qualify for Gold Seal Bright Futures scholarship money. This high school magnet is conducive to post-secondary education in one of the following arenas: Career and Technology Education in conjunction with Orange County Public Schools, two year AS or AA degrees as found in local community colleges or four year BS or BA degrees from college or university in information technology or business.
The National Academy Foundation Academy of Information Technology magnet promotes the study of digital media and information technology. The campus, combined with state of the art equipment and software, provides an exciting arena where IT magnet students can learn competitive skills that are necessary for success in the fast-paced world of technology and telecommunications. The digital media lab includes an innovative digital recording studio for radio and television, as well as electronic publications. Students also receive instruction, which fosters growth toward certification in the following areas: CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA A+, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, and Intuit Entrepreneurship and Small Business. This program is affiliated with the National Academy Foundation (NAF).
This four-year information technology sequence of courses aligns relevant academic, employment and workplace standards with opportunities to partner with local businesses and post-secondary institutions.
Serious students have opportunities to earn dual enrollment credits through articulation agreements with Valencia Community College for each of the related IT areas. Students are also eligible for the Florida Bright Futures and Gold Seal Vocational Scholarships.
Internships, both on-campus and in local industry, allow students to network with professionals who can provide experiences not found in any classroom. These real-world experiences in the IT and digital medial fields foster student achievement in ways that have been largely unexplored until now. Information Technology is rapidly becoming an integral part of most competitive businesses.
